Until Further Notice:Help Warehouse, a program of Lower Columbia CAP, is asking for donations of paper bags. CAP uses 600 bags each month for its USDA Commodities program, a federally funded food supplement program for low-income families and seniors. The commodities are bagged and delivered to 14 distribution sites in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties on the third Tuesday of each month. Paper bags can be dropped off at the CAP building, 1526 Commerce Avenue in Longview, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The Volunteer Group at the Kelso Train Depot is welcoming aboard new volunteers willing to help staff the depot during business hours.
There are three four-hour shifts at the train depot every day of the week.
Anyone 21 years of age and older are welcome to volunteer.
Applications for depot volunteering are available for pick-up at the train depot.

The next session of the AARP Smart Driver class will be Tuesday and Wednesday February 4th and 5th at the Longview Senior Center, 11-11 Commerce from 11 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. It includes a refresher course on driving skills, changes in traffic laws and more. This is classroom only. You’ll receive a certificate at the end of the course that qualifies drivers over age 55 for a discount on their auto insurance. Cost is $20. AARP members only $15. High Step Dance Academy will present their Hospice Benefit Dinner Show @ the Expo Center on Saturday March 21st @ 6pm. High Steps award winning dancers will be performing and raising money towards the Children’s Bereavement Program at our local Hospice Center.

It will be a buffet dinner and tickets are sold by assigned seating. Come support your community and the dancers help children who have lost someone in their lives.

CFA – CAT SHOW
THE Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) is pleased to announce the Puget Sound & McKenzie River Cat Clubs are bringing a 6 ring cat show to Longview on April 11 &12 from 10 – 4 p.m. at Cowlitz County Expo Center – 1900 – 7th Ave. Longview. This group will have over 100 cats from 25 different breeds; they will be judged against each other to arrive at the BEST of show. Plus a one of a kind agility experiences will be offered at this event. Come out and see these animals race their way through a maze of different obstacles.
Gate fees General admission $5.00 – Families $10.00 and $3.00 fot seniors. There will be no charge for parking! Keep the cat shows local and support this cat show by attending this event. Vendors will be on hand selling cat & human related items. Locally made products made in the Pacific NW. Food will be available at the facility.
– Community Home Health & Hospice is offering a free, eight-week survivors of suicide loss group in Longview. Class starts Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 3pm-5pm, at The James Avery Center, 1000 – 12th Ave., Longview, and continues weekly through March 11, 2020.
Community Home Health & Hospice offers small group support sessions focused on the profound grieving process of suicide bereavement. The group is led by experienced, licensed medical social workers. This grief support group provides the opportunity to process grief caused by loss. This program creates a safe environment in which to look at old beliefs about grief and receive new tools to complete unresolved emotions that may still be causing pain.
